Mr. Sun
It's my birthday today. My big plans are driving my daughter to her all girls school, picking her up after school and driving her to the all boys school for marching band and then driving back to pick her up after marching band. And somewhere in between, I have to drive to the town an hour north of us to have lunch with my mom and her friends and make dinner. Happy birthday to me. Yes, I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself... Last year I spent my birthday in Northern Ohio at a teachers conference and had a much better time. The girls (other teachers) and I spent the whole trip using my birthday as an excuse to celebrate. I think I still build my birthday's up to be bigger than they should be, but in reality they are just another day. I did receive lovely thoughtful gifts from my family, and one daughter even cleaned some of the house for me without me having to ask her, so from here on out I will concentrate on all of the good things about the day... and ... not that the toilet is backed up and I now have a new thing to add to my list of what to do on my birthday. :o)

Flower Buttons
I finally finished a drawing! It feels so good to be able to sit down and draw again. Now, how do you keep the family from just dropping in to talk because they see that it's nice and quiet in your room? Oh well, I finished a drawing. I know I will miss them all when they leave to start their own families, so I try to always at least listen while they talk, maybe just not making eye contact the whole time. :o) I sketched this drawing out on bristol board and started by adding color to the circles with water color. I added all the pen and ink at the end.

Some art work from my students
I thought it might be fun to show you some of the art work done my kindergarten art students. They will make these into necklaces next week.
What I have been working on in my spare time
I had bought a few old magazines over the past 2 summers, I have been going through them lately and cutting out images to use in my future art work, here are a few of them. I mostly use these in my personal journals. I used to use them in ATCs, which I haven't done for serval years now. I still love ATCs, I just have perfered to make larger art work at the moment.

Alphabet Dreamin'
I woke up one morning thinking about this drawing, I gues I'm thinking about going back to school soon. I added doodles to all the letters and if you look real close you can find the names of family members hidden in around the letters. I had a great time making this drawing, but my eyes were a little crossed by the end. I hope you have fun looking for all the hidden pictures.

Flower Basket
This took me a while to find the time and energy to work on it. I'm so ready to draw again but so many other things have to come first, dern it! This drawing was a new thought or idea to disect a flower basket into 3 parts. One circle represents the basket, one the leaves, and the smallest circle the flowers. I had so much fun doing this one. I especially love the way the flower circle came out. Now back to getting the kitchen done, then mother's day party for school, the bike-a-thon for school... you get the idea. My summer starts in 5 weeks. yes!

The wall cabinets and soffet are down and all the instullation from the attic came down too. We have filled 3 garbage cans full of cellulose! The hardest part is keeping up with the things falling from the ceiling. I tried to cook last night after scrubbing the kitchen, things kept falling on to the stove. We will be eating at the dinner down the road again tonight.
What's up at our house
This a picture of my daughter in my old kitchen, we have started to pull the cabinets out. The soffett has to come down yet and all the cabinets need to emptied (not in that order). Anyway -- MY HOUSE IS A MESS!! and it's driving me crazy (in a good way) but it is taking away from my drawing. I'll get back to it very soon - I hope

February 23, 2010
This is a line drawing I had finished in February 2008. I go through many different moods about what kind of art I want to make and when. I had drawn this picture and decided that I would use the ink watered down for the shading. In person the shading is a lovely gray color, after scanning the picture the shading had a muddy brown look, so please imagine this drawing with a gray shading and not this muddy color.

Pennsylvania Dutch Throws UP
I worked on this drawing on and off for about a week or so. I wanted to try adding color to one of my pen and inks. One of my favorite things to see on old barns are the Pennsylvania Dutch Hex signs. I love the colors and patterns. This is my shot at capturing the image with a little Zentangle twist to it, of course. :o)

Moleskine - Blue Doodle
This is one of my drawings I did with my new ink I had gotten from Christmas. My youngest daughter had been in an accident about a year or so ago and my job lately has been to sit and wait while she does Physical T. I had bought a Moleskine note book and some pens and as I waited I drew. This picture is from my Moleskine.

Cloudy Day
This is my latest Large black and white drawing. Some one on another site asked me how I got everything so perfect. My only excuse is I'm a quiet perfectionist. Every time I start to draw, I can't help myself, I try very hard to make each line staighter than the last and each circle the same as the last circle... Crazy I know, but I can't stop, that's all the fun.

Hidden Hearts - (February)
This is the second drawing from my idea of a drawing representing each month of the year. While I was drawing this particular picture I was listening to Stephen Kings Movie "Tommy Knockers", every time I look at it I think about that movie. Anyone else out there do the same thing - remember what you were listening to when you were working on a certain piece?
Lost in a Circle
When I draw I start by sketching the basic design out in a light pencil, using circle templets, a compass and a ruler. Once I have the basic design drawn done I get to do my favorite thing - use ink to draw the lines I want to keep and to create my little patterns. It measures 6" x 9", it's a bit smaller that the other drawings on this blog so far.
Night Blooms
My family had had a hard couple of years with our health and I am finally able to sit down again and start to draw starting Dec. 2009. I had posted some of my pictures on my Flickr account (under l.stoner) and I got a lot of possitive feed back. This is my first drawing like this one in about 2 years. This pictures measures 10 1/2" x 8 1/2"

Into the Looking Bowl
I love the name that my daughter came up with for this drawing, I think that it really captures the whole feeling of the drawing. This is another drawing from 2007's note book.
Wondering Flowers
My youngest daughter said these flowers looked like some thing from "Alice in Wonderland", so she named them "Wondering Flowers". I colored the background with my Rapidograph pen, I loved the effect the pen and ink made on the solid black background. This drawing measures 10 1/2" x 8 1/2"
Scattered
This line drawing is 10 1/2" x 8 1/2". I was now starting to thing about other shapes getting a little pattern added to them, so why not try a square? This is another one of my drawings that I had hidden from friends and family thinking that people wouldn't like them. This is the first time I have shown this drawing on line. I had finished this one in November 2008.
Stars in the Sky
Radiating Out
I decided to get my old school pens out and start drawing again. I made many of these drawings of a circle in a circle and adding some of my patterns in between the lines. If you look close you'll see that each of the circles are a little off set from the other circles. I hid these drawings from friends thinking they were just something I would like and no one else. I was thrilled to discovered on the internet, there were other artist out there that enjoyed making these little doodles too.
